After a successful first year, Dublin City University and the NTR Foundation are delighted to announce that they are once again going to provide two scholarships to recent Access graduates to complete the MSc in Climate Change: Policy, Media and Society at DCU. The scholarship recipients will receive full fee support for the Masters, together with a stipend to assist with educational expenses and living costs.
The NTR Foundation is an independent philanthropic organisation, founded by NTR plc. NTR plc is a leading investor and asset manager of renewable energy projects, with a specific focus on wind. Since its establishment in 2008, the NTR Foundation has provided financial support to carefully selected projects, research and non-governmental organisations, primarily in Ireland, in line with their core mission to address the challenges of climate change and resource sustainability.
This is the second year that the NTR Foundation will offer this exciting scholarship opportunity. The scholarship is open to recent graduates of DCU’s Access programme, and also to graduates of Access programmes in other Irish higher education institutions, which support young people from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds to attend university.
Speaking about the renewal of the scholarship partnership, Pat Brereton, Chair of the MSc in Climate Change: Policy, Media and Society said:
“We are thrilled that the NTR Foundation are once again going to provide scholarships for Access graduates to complete the MSc in Climate Change. The first year of the Masters has been a huge success and we are confident in saying that this course gives DCU the opportunity to provide new generation leaders with knowledge and understanding of the regulatory, political, media and societal environment within which change must be achieved to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement on climate change. We would like to thank the NTR Foundation for continuing to make this opportunity available to two of our Access graduates; their support ensures that financial barriers do not prevent them from becoming leaders in tacking climate change.”
Joy Newton, who is one of the two NTR Scholarship recipients currently enrolled in the MSc in Climate Change: Policy, Media and Society commented:
“I’m really enjoying the Masters and my hope is that through my education, I will gain enough knowledge to make companies aware of the risks that climate change will bring for both themselves and their clients. I want to help them devise plans to mitigate and adapt to these impending risks, and thanks to the NTR Foundation this has been made possible. Through their support I have the chance to study a topic that will define our existence both now and in the future.”
Applications for the scholarship must be made via the Postgraduate Applications Centre website using the programme code DC669 (full-time study) or DC679 (part-time study) and scholarship enquiries should be made via an expression of interest form. The closing date for expressions of interest is Monday 29th July 2019. Applicants should be eligible for EU fees.
