Dublin City University and the NTR Foundation are calling on recent Access graduates with an interest in climate change, policy-making and society to apply for the 2018/19 NTR Foundation MSc in Climate Change Scholarship at DCU. Two successful recipients will receive full fee support for the new taught MSc in Climate Change: Policy, Media and Society at DCU, together with a stipend to assist with educational expenses and living costs.
The NTR Foundation is an independent philanthropic organisation, founded by NTR plc. NTR plc is a leading investor and asset manager of renewable energy projects, with a specific focus on wind.
Since its establishment in 2008, the NTR Foundation has provided financial support to carefully selected projects, research and non-governmental organisations, primarily in Ireland, in line with their core mission to address the challenges of climate change and resource sustainability.
This is the first year that the NTR Foundation will offer this exciting scholarship opportunity and marks the start of the newly created MSc in Climate Change programme at DCU. The scholarship opportunity is open to recent graduates of DCU’s Access programme, and also to graduates of Access programmes in other Irish higher education institutions, which support young people from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds to attend university.
Speaking at the announcement of the new scholarship partnership, Dr. Diarmuid Torney, Course Director for the MSc in Climate Change and Assistant Professor in DCU’s School of Law and Government, said:
“DCU’s commitment to addressing the major challenges of our time is manifest in the creation of a new MSc in Climate Change: Policy, Media and Society. This master’s will provide a new generation of leaders with a thorough understanding of the regulatory, political, media and societal environment within which change must be achieved to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement on climate change. Thanks to the support of the NTR Foundation, we are delighted to ensure that financial barriers will not prevent Access graduates with the potential to become leaders in tackling climate change from taking part in this course.”
