DCU Educational Trust is pleased to announce that Eamonn Quinn has been appointed as Chair of the charity, which develops philanthropic relationships to support DCU in its mission to transform lives and societies. Eamonn replaces Larry Quinn, who served as Chair of the DCU Educational Trust Council of Trustees from 2009 until December 2019.
A well-known figure in Irish life, Eamonn previously served as Marketing Director and Deputy Chairman of Superquinn supermarkets, the retail chain established by his father Feargal Quinn. Today, he is an investor in technology companies associated with the retail sector, including the recently launched grocery delivery start-up Buymie, compliance and product safety tech firm Kelsius and digital receipts provider yReceipts.
Eamonn is also widely known from his role in RTE’s investment programme Dragon’s Den, in which he starred from 2014 to 2017.
Eamonn has been a member of DCU Educational Trust’s Council of Trustees since 2011. His connections with the University have been strengthened through his daughters, Lucy and Emilie, who both completed their undergraduate degrees at DCU.
Speaking on his appointment, Eamonn stated:
“It has been my privilege to be a member of the Council of Trustees over the past nine years and to witness the powerful possibilities created when philanthropy combines with a young, dynamic and ambitious university like DCU. I look forward to leading the Trust in the coming years as we continue to build meaningful partnerships with DCU’s supporters that will further DCU’s mission to transform lives and societies.”
Speaking on the announcement that Eamonn will succeed Larry Quinn as Chairperson, Joe Quinsey, CEO of DCU Educational Trust remarked:
“We are indebted to Larry Quinn for his work over the last ten years, which included launching DCU’s first ever capital campaign, Shaping the Future: The Campaign for DCU, in 2015. We are extremely fortunate that Larry is now passing the baton to a successor of Eamonn’s calibre. Eamonn’s business acumen and experience will be invaluable as we seek to work with DCU’s friends and alumni to enable projects that will transform the lives of our students and that will offer innovative responses to the major challenges facing society today.”
