Student Centre Development Underway

Construction of DCU’s new €14m Student Centre has commenced, a development which will significantly enhance the on-campus student experience at DCU.

The new four-storey space in the centre of the Glasnevin campus will house: An Entrepreneurship and Innovation hub; a Student Leadership and Life-skills Centre; an Arts and Culture hub; office space for DCU’s clubs and societies; a global student centre representing more than 115 nationalities, and a retail space which will provide key services to the student population and generate profits which can be reinvested back into the Centre.

The Student Centre will provide multi-function rooms and office space for use by DCU’s more than 100 student clubs and societies. In addition, there will be a dedicated print and broadcast media room to house DCUfm and The College View, as well as a game zone and tranquility space.

While the project has been primarily funded by students, significant contributions have been made from Bank of Ireland and the Tony Ryan Trust. Completion of the Centre is expected in early 2018.

Speaking at the commencement of construction on the DCU site, Liam McLoughlin, Chief Executive Retail Ireland at Bank of Ireland said:

“Bank of Ireland is delighted to be able to contribute to and support the new Student Centre at Dublin City University. It is great to see work begin on this development which will complement the academic studies of students for generations to come. We have a number of long standing partnerships with DCU so we are very pleased to foster our relationship further through this investment

Professor Brian MacCraith, President of DCU said,

“On completion of the new Centre, Dublin City University students will have access to a world-class venue which will allow them to develop the skills necessary to succeed personally, professionally and within their community.

The next decade will see more than 50,000 students transformed through their engagement with this new Student Centre. On behalf of them, I would like to thank our partners, Bank of Ireland, the Tony Ryan Trust and our existing student body for their support in making this possible.”
