DCU opens its €15 million state-of-the-art student centre funded by both students and donors

September 2018 saw the opening of DCU’s brand new, state-of-the-art student centre, the ‘U’. The space, which is a magnificent facility where students can engage with the cultural, social, entrepreneurial and international aspects of university life, was officially opened by President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins.

The development of the centre has been made possible through significant donations from The Tony Ryan Trust and Bank of Ireland together with a student levy, voted on by the students themselves. The ‘U’ is a purpose-built centre housing a broad range of activities and support services, serving the needs of DCU’s rapidly growing student community, now numbering over 17,000.

Key features include a Student Leadership and Life-Skills Centre, Performing Arts and Cultural spaces for students and the wider community, an Entrepreneurship and Innovation Hub for national and international student initiatives, and a Global Village celebrating the cultural diversity of the University.

The ‘U’ is one of the University’s most high profile and important projects in the Campus Development Plan and is one of the flagship projects of the trust’s Shaping the Future Campaign.
