St Patrick’s Class of 1975 Look to the Future

This summer, St Patrick’s College Class of 1975 returned to campus to celebrate their 50th Anniversary. With over 100 in attendance, classmates travelled from all over Ireland to reunite once again as a class. Classmates recreated photos from their time in the college, reminisced, and caught up with old friends.

In a moving gesture, the class used the occasion as an opportunity to come together and donate to the DCU Excellence and Opportunity Fund. Their class gift will support students in DCU Institute of Education to overcome socioeconomic obstacles and reach their potential as future educators, like so many in the Class of 1975 before them.

Mark Cunningham, Class of 1975 graduate and member of the organising committee described why the class wanted to support students at the University today:

“As a class, we have all benefited from the education we received at St Patrick’s College, and many of us have spent our lives helping the next generation to learn and grow. Coming together for our 50th anniversary was a wonderful chance to reconnect, but we also wanted to give back. By supporting the DCU Excellence and Opportunity Fund, we can help today’s students at the Institute of Education overcome financial barriers and achieve their potential as future educators, just as we once did.”

Jason Sherlock, Director of Development at DCU Educational Trust said:

“A class gift is a wonderful way for graduates to mark a milestone reunion, celebrate their shared experience and leave a lasting legacy. We would like to thank everyone in the class for their generosity in coming together to support today’s students, who we hope will be inspired to make the same remarkable impact in classrooms and society as the Class of 1975.”
