Growing up in foster care, Aaron dreamed of becoming a pilot. In this video, he shares how support from DCU’s Excellence and Opportunity Fund is helping him to achieve that dream. Now a second-year Aviation Management student, Aaron hopes to show other young people in care what they can achieve.
Supported by the Excellence and Opportunity Fund, DCU’s Access Programme encourages young people from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds to consider third level education as a viable option, and provides personal, financial and academic supports to help them thrive and excel in their studies.
Aaron Ward was awarded the TJ O’Driscoll Memorial Scholarship for 2022/23. This scholarship honours the memory of TJ O’Driscoll, former Director-General of Bord Fáilte, the Irish Tourist Board, and the first Chairman of Enterprise Ireland. The daa established the TJ O’Driscoll Memorial Scholarship in his memory to support a DCU Access student pursuing a degree in Aviation Management.
